Philadelphia Mission Team Meeting #1 (5.15.13)

Thanks to everyone that was able to make it to the meeting last night. We are extremely excited to start this exciting process together. We understand that for this trip to maximize its impact the trip has to be a full team effort; staff, parents, and of course students. We hope that this blog helps contribute to full communication and contentedness throughout this process.  All relevant information, before and during the trips will be posted here. Another means we use for effective and quick communication is our text lists.

NC Mission Trip Meeting #1 on 5/15

We had a great meeting last night as we begun our preparations for all that God has in store for the team this summer down in North Carolina.  Throughout our pre-trip training meetings we are going to be looking at Peter's encounter with God in Acts 10-11:18 if you would like to follow along or read through what your son or daughter is learning about.  In Acts 11:17, Peter learned that God asked him to remove barriers that he  established and in the same way Luke challenged the NC team to think through things in their life that God may be asking them to "Get Out of the Way."

Information from Nicaragua Training Mtg on 5/14

We had a great Nicaragua Team Meeting on Tuesday night, and went over a lot of important information. We ask that all families make sure they are familiar with the material covered at the meeting.

Attached is the Checklist for 5.14.13. On the second page of the checklist, you will find all of our transportation information for the trip. If you have any questions, contact Alexis at akincaid@wcchapel.org.

We also want to share with everyone the Discussion Questions from Tuesday's meeting. This year, we will be looking at Peter's encounter with God as a lens through which we might view our own encounter with God in Nicaragua. Luke walked us through Acts 10:1-23, and then we discussed the attached questions in small groups. Please feel free to continue the conversation as a family as you prepare for the trip.

Again, please make sure to read through the checklist (link above), as there are important deadlines and critical information concerning flights, our donation focus for the year, and future training meetings.

Finally, please make sure you are keeping records of all the financial support that you receive and that you are turning the checks/money in to Alexis as soon as possible. If someone has accidentally made a check out to YOU instead of to the Chapel, simply endorse the back and write "Payable to WCC" under your signature. This will ensure that the donor still receive the tax receipt for their donation.

It's hard to believe we will be in Nicaragua in just over one month! Please be in prayer for our trip, all the details that will be coming together over the next few weeks, and for the people we will be serving. We are expecting nothing short of life transformation!

Nicaragua Training Meeting TONIGHT!

Our first student training meeting for the Nicaragua Mission Trip is tonight, May 14th, from 6:30-8:30pm in the SM Worship Room. Hope to see everyone there.

The first training meetings for the Middle School North Carolina Trip and the High School Philadelphia Trip are tomorrow, Wednesday May 15th from 6:30-8:30pm. The North Carolina team will meet in the SM Worship Room. The Philly team will meet in Woodward Hall. For both trips, the first hour of these meetings are for students AND parents. The second hour is just for students.

Service Opportunity to Earn Credit Towards Your Nicaragua Balance

On Friday, May 17th, the Chapel's Food Services Ministry is looking for 15 students to serve dinner at the annual Choir Banquet. In exchange for your help at the event, the FSM team would like to contribute towards your Nicaragua mission trip. They need assistance from 6-9pm and will provide dinner for all volunteers. Volunteers will also receive $9 per hour credited towards your Nicaragua mission trip.

Parent Meeting (4.16.13) Recap

Thanks to all the families that were able to make it to the Parent Meeting last night! We are so excited to walk through this process together, and know that God is going to show up in amazing ways throughout our preparations and the trip. We will continue to post valuable resources to the blog after every meeting to help you stay informed and connected. First, here is the Parent Meeting Powerpoint that we walked through at last night's meeting. The powerpoint contains information on deadlines, contact information, and other practical resources.

Next, I've attached the checklist from the meeting: Checklist #1. We will give each student a checklist at every meeting with important information about upcoming assignments and deadlines. Please make sure you read over the checklist and return the listed documents. The following documents were included in your packets and/or listed on the checklist and are due at the next team meeting on May 14th:

  • ORPHANetwork Trip Application
  • A copy of each student's passport 
  • A WCC Parental Consent Form (Many of you already have this one on file from either HS CBA Day or the HS Ski Trip. Email Alexis at akincaid@wcchapel.org if you are unsure whether or not you have one on file for this year.)

Finally, I have also uploaded the Support Letter Instructions. This document has important information on how to write and send support letters. Please read over the document carefully. You must turn in your stamped, addressed letters by Sunday, April 28th and the Student Ministries Staff will put them in the mail for you. If you have already sent your letters, please let Alexis know how many you sent.
